Evie by ChrystasRose Evie by ChrystasRose
This is my baby, Evie. This picture was taken when she was five months old.

I adopted Evie on April 30th 2011. She is 1 year and three months old.

I was so empty when my Butters died, I only waited a couple of weeks to get a new cat. I don't feel I betrayed Butter's memory by getting a new cat so soon, because I know she would understand that I have so much love to give and I also missed the love I got from her so badly and needed to get another cat to fill the holes.

Evie is pretty shy with others, but she is very sweet to me. She loves to sleep with me and cuddle, she loves to lay on my chest and rest her head in my hand. I love her very much.

Yeah, I felt the same way when I lost Joscoe, my calico. I waited about a month or so, debating about getting another cat so soon because I wasn't sure if I'd be betraying Jos' memory.

And it also seemed at the time that when I was about to settle on adopting cat from the shelter, the cat I was considering would get adopted out. I had narrowed them down to three choices; Lucy, Megan, and Vida. And those three went pretty quickly...then Pi was brought in after spending a couple weeks at a foster home to recover from being sick. We kind of bonded and, a couple days before Christmas, I took her home.

I still love Joscoe even though she's parted this world, but I think she approves of me bringing Pi home. Pi's not a "replacement", she's another member of the family and...to be honest...I think Joscoe is that little angel (or devil) on Pi's shoulder giving Pi some tips on how to deal with her human.

One of the things that made me realize I made the right decision was, after a couple weeks, Pi walked in the living room and was batting something around, playing with it a couple minutes before dropping it right at me feet. I looked down at it and a lump caught in my throat as I recognized it as one of Joscoe's old toys that we had thought was long lost (or destroyed). Pi gave me this look that almost looked like she was saying "Look what I found...can I keep it?"

I reached down and picked it up, remembering all the times I saw Joscoe with that battered old snowman toy that she dragged around like a trophy. After about a minute I set the beaten and tattered snowman down in front of Pi and said, "Okay...go ahead, girl."

Pi then proceeded to bat the toy around and ended up spending another hour with it before curling up in front of the little gas fire-place with her new toy.

I don't put stock in superstition or ghosts, but it was almost as if Joscoe was there telling me "Hey, it's okay...and I'll still be around in some form or another, even if it's a memory."
